How booking a Molokini trip works

1 · Pick the harbor before the boat

The big catamarans leave Ma'alaea, about 60 minutes from the snorkel site by one operator's estimate. Rafts launch from the Kihei boat ramp, and one catamaran beach-loads at Makena, 3 miles from the crater. Choose the departure point that fits where you are staying.

2 · Go in the morning

Hawaii's Division of Aquatic Resources warns that currents can strengthen inside the cove in the afternoon when the wind picks up. Morning trips are the norm for that reason, and captains change the snorkel sites on the day if the weather turns.

3 · Read what the price includes

On the operators' own pages a 2-hour raft trip from Kihei was $129 per person, and a 5.5-hour Ma'alaea catamaran with breakfast and lunch was $178.95 for adults on special offer. Check for gear, meals, parking and whether Turtle Town is a second stop.
